Rockin’ Out

Don your cowgirl hats and leather boots when Charmer Productions presents its “Country Rock with a Funky Beat” bash. Mix masters from far and wide congregate to show off their best funky-beat-laced country tracks and vie for the $200 grand prize. All proceeds benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. To get in on the action, upload your best at charmersproductions.com. Of course, a party just wouldn’t be complete without DJs, dancers and celebrity entertainment—it’s going to be a country funky good time on Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. Eleven, 8811 Santa Monica Blvd., WeHo. For more info, visit myspace.com/cphollywood.

Ray of Sunshine

Amy Ray, one half of the Grammy Award-winning Sapphic folk-rock duo Indigo Girls, brings her solo works to WeHo, playing from a discography Rolling Stone has called, “angry, bold, pointed and eclectic as hell.” Her recently released fourth solo disc, Didn’t It Feel Kinder, broke new ground as a new, more introspective Ray hints at wide-ranging influences from punk rock to hip-hop apexes, winning critical acclaim from both devoted Indigo Girls listeners and fans of her previous solo efforts. Jan. 28 at 8 p.m. Troubadour, 9081 Santa Monica Blvd., WeHo. $15. For more information, visit troubadour.com.

A Fond Farewell

Acoustic blues trio Saffire: The Uppity Blues Women—which includes out activist guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Gaye Adegbalola—releases the band’s first new studio release in eight years and their final recording together, Saffire, Havin’ The Last Word. As part of their farewell, a documentary on Saffire’s 25-year history, Hot Flash, will be available on iTunes, and a goodbye tour kicks off in early 2009. For more information, visit their Web site, uppityblueswomen.com.
