  Hotter Than Hell

A night out with the guys just got a lot sexier with the wickedly sexy boys of Lucky Devil Burlesque.

By Jonathan Riggs

Ever wished those slinky, seductive Pussycat Dolls were guys? (Or maybe you actually don’t have too much time on your hands.) Well, thanks to promoter par excellence Tom Whitman and club king Ivan Kane’s Lucky Devil Burlesque, now you can live out your dreams of seeing some real-life, all-boy burlesque. But don’t worry. These ain’t your grandma’s Chippendales.

“The first thing that Ivan and I said to each other was that this was not a go-go boy performance. Our dancers are professional, working dancers,” says Whitman. “Our choreographer does tours for some of the biggest names in the business. All of the performances are costumed.”

(At least briefly.) And calm down, fans-a-go-go.

“Hey, I like a good go-go boy, but this night is about performances,” Whitman laughs. “You’ll realize that right away when you see the first show.”

Starting Oct. 2 and running every Tuesday night after that at Forty Deuce, the handsome and hunky dancers of Lucky Devil Burlesque will be turning out hella hot performances.

“Lucky Devil is exciting for me because it will be a night unlike any other. There has never been a burlesque night for gay men like this,” Whitman says. “To be working with people like Ivan Kane and Tovaris, our amazing choreographer, means that this is going to be an amazing show and a really fun night.”

When Whitman and Kane first came up with the idea, they started researching what was out there and found that the scene was all about gender-bending burlesque, while the market of manly charms was going underserved—something they’re happy to remedy.

“Lucky Devil is going to be about masculine, sexy guys,” says Whitman. “The gay man’s version of what Lucky Deuce gives to the straight crowd.”

And Forty Deuce, with its stage that wraps around the bar, is the perfect place for this show.

“The space is intimate, with a speakeasy kind of vibe. Imagine going to a burlesque show in the ’30s or ’40s. Now, take out the hot girl dancers, and replace them with sexy guys,” he says. “A DJ will spin between shows, and at first, it will seem like a traditional night out with the boys. Then the lights will go down, and a show will begin.”

Plus, there will be VIP tables and seats and no cover charge—just a bar minimum. And, if you’re up for getting the VIP experience (and you should be), you’ll be up close and personal with the pretty boys. Whew! Is it getting hot in here, or is it just me? Anyway, if you’re wondering if you should go or not, then Whitman’s got some words to put your feverish little mind at ease.

“It will be something completely different that you haven’t seen before. The venue was built specifically for burlesque performances. It is going to be wild,” he says with a grin. “A lot of people, some of the best in the business, have been working on this night. It is an event I am really excited about. I think everyone is going to be blown away.”
