YES, DADDY

Leapin’ Lizards! It’s been 33 years since comic-strip character Little Orphan Annie debuted on Broadway in Annie. The story of the red-headed orphan and her dog taken in by rich industrialist Daddy Warbucks is as endearing as ever. It’s back for a three-day run at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. Here’s your chance to relive great songs including the ever-optimistic “Tomorrow,” plus “It’s the Hard Knock Life” and “Easy Street.” Annie plays Friday, Jan. 29-Sunday, Jan. 31.

SUPER DATING?

Not into the Super Bowl? The Center OC offers an alternative with its annual Speed Dating event for gay men ages 20 and up. “It’s a way to bring the community together, get to know one another and learn a positive message as well,” says Tony Viramontes, The Center’s HIV-prevention specialist. “If a relationship develops from it, all the better.” The event is Sunday, Feb. 7 at Bistro 400 in Santa Ana, kicking off with a mix-and-mingle with appetizers at 6 p.m., followed by the speed dating from 7-9 p.m. They’ll allot 3-5 minutes per “date,” depending on the number of people who turn out.

GET YOUR GAME ON

It’s an evening of food and games as MPower OC hosts its annual Free Gayme Night at Boomers in Irvine on Monday, Feb. 8 from 7 to 11 p.m. “This is always our most popular night of the year; it’s a great way to meet lots of guys and have lots of fun,” explains Anthony Malek, MPower’s outreach coordinator. “There’s something for everyone. Boomer has everything from laser tag and video games to go-carts and rock climbing. Plus we cover the cost of everything, including food.” Gayme Night, like all MPower events, is aimed at gay and bisexual men, ages 18 to 29.

AU REVOIR!

Fullerton’s Hunger Artists Theatre’s lesbian-themed play Sans Merci has its final shows Thursday, Jan. 28-Sunday, Jan. 31. The story of two young women, one injured, one killed, when they get involved in a dangerous humanitarian mission to South America, Sans Merci is from local playwright Johanna Adams, who has previously directed several productions for the 11-year-old theatre troupe. Hunger Artists Theatre is located in the College Business Park off State College Road in Fullerton.
