An immensely talented performer, Selene Luna has mastered everything from the art of burlesque to stand-up comedy, excelling in each of her endeavors. Recently she was featured on vh1’s The Cho Show and had audiences rolling as the personal assistant to gay-favorite Margaret Cho herself.
At 3’10”, she is a force to be reckoned with, a huge presence in small packaging.
Luna sat down with Frontiers in L.A. to discuss her role in the gay community, her many current projects, and how she feels about L.A.’s favorite holiday. And what better way to ring in All Hallow’s Eve than by recreating some of Hollywood’s most horrific flicks.

How do you see yourself fitting into the gay community?
I definitely see myself as part of the gay community, mainly because I’ve been part of it my entire life. For obvious reasons—my size and my difference—I’m kinda a societal black sheep, and the gay community has always been there for me. Gay men have always embraced me and have always given me a place where I feel I belong. Gays are the people who have been there for me since I was five. It’s always been a source of comfort for me—being part of the gay community—and feeling understood. It’s really the only place I feel like I fit in and am not judged.

Tell me about what you’ve been up to and the stuff you’re working on now.
I’ve been busy doing a lot of shows, mainly crafting my new solo show, and doing a lof of stuff with my comedy sketch partner Nadya Ginsburg, who’s very well known for her impersonation of Madonna. I’ve been working a lot with Nadya, Roseanne Barr and Jackie Beat—we all just recently shot a bunch of video sketches together that are on YouTube. There’s been a lot of focus on my sketch comedy and also doing my own stand-up—working with Margaret Cho, which I have been for a while—and cultivating my solo show. Those are the three things I’ve been focusing on lately.
Tell me about this horror movie that you starred in recently.
Yeah, it’s actually a cult favorite. It’s Demonic Toys 2: Personal Demons. It’s part of a horror film franchise, and I’m really thrilled about it because I got to work with my good friend William Butler, who wrote and directed the film. It should be on the Scy Fy channel this November. If not, it’ll definitely be on Pay-Per-View.

As you know, this is our Halloween issue. Are you a fan of Halloween, and what’s your favorite part of the Halloween season?
Well, I feel like it’s Halloween for me all year long, just because so much of what I do requires costumes and getting into drag of one form or another. I get paid to get in character, so Halloween is usually the time that I’d rather not get into costume. It’s kinda like my day off where I get to let loose and just have fun.
However, this Halloween I am going to be totally in the spirit and participate because I have a really awesome costume that I can’t resist wearing.
And I’m sure you don’t want to divulge it...
I don’t, I don’t!
