In honor of the Aug. 22 midnight screening of What We Do
Is Secret at the Nuart, we bring you an all Darby Crash-themed
date.
3:33 p.m.
Put on your circle armbands and start your all-things-Darby
date by visiting the Orpheum Theatre (842 S. Broadway Blvd.)
the location of the very first Germs show. According to
Pat Smear, at the first show Lorna wore her pants inside
out and Darby covered himself in licorice so we suggest
you do exactly the same.
Cost: $1.99 for a pack of Twizzlers
4:14 p.m.
Dig a little deeper into Darby’s history by visiting University
High School (11800 Texas Dr.) where Paul Beahm and Georg
Rutherberg (Crash and Smear) met and were kicked out for
anti-social behavior, allegedly for using “mind control”
on fellow students before starting the band.
Cost: Free if you can handle being around a high school again
5:07 p.m.
While his death on Dec. 7, 1980 was eclipsed in the media
by the murder of John Lennon the following day, you can
pay your respects to Crash at Holy Cross Cemetary (5835
W. Slauson Ave.). Crash can be found by visiting Section
R, plot T9 115.
Cost: Depends as you may want to leave flowers or something
nice behind
8:13 p.m.
While you’re probably not going to want to give each other
Germs burns you can still hang out in the parking lot of
the Rainbow (9015 Sunset Blvd.) eating pizza much like
the band did.
Cost:
Under $20 for a pizza
11:47 p.m.
Sporting your brand new Mohican, drive as though you heard
the Masque was about to reopen and head to the Nuart (11272
Santa Monica Blvd.) for the midnight screening of What
We Do Is Secret. It hasn’t been confirmed but we have a
feeling original Germs drummer Don Bolles may even be there.
Cost: $9 each
