All bottled up
Thank you for printing that fantastic piece by Assia Mortensen
[“The Water Balance,” Vol. 27, issue 06] about the benefits
of altering the PH balance of our water. It was such a relief
to read an article that doesn't give me nightmares about
drinking up.

Not Going to the Chapel
I want to let you know that I appreciate the way Frontiers
is handling the gay marriage issue. You have been completely
objective and written about it from many perspectives. While
it is mostly an issue of equal rights, some of us can be
happily coupled without the need of government interference.
This is most true of two articles by Michael Liberatore and
Michael Kearns [“Wedding Bell Blues?” and “The Cost of Big
Fat Gay Weddings” Vol. 27, issue 06] in your latest issue.
I strongly empathized with both writers. I hope that others
who read these articles will, instead of spending tremendously
on garish wedding celebrations, have small ceremonies and
donate money to worthy charities and ask their friends to
do the same in lieu of expensive gifts.

Cost Effective
I typically enjoy Michael Kearns’ ReveLAtions pieces, and
his [“The Cost of Big Fat Gay Weddings,” Vol. 27, issue 06]
really hit home with me. The number of people I’ve witnessed
shelling out beaucoup bucks on “celebrating their love” has
triggered a “keeping up with the Joneses” cycle that I feel
uncomfortable with. Maybe this exuberance will fade as the
novelty fades, I don’t know, but I think Kearns’ reminder
that we have many civil responsibilities to tend to, including
rising HIV infection rates, a hell of a methamphetamine problem,
and roughly 1,500 homeless LGBT youth on our streets, is
one to be heeded.
