April showers bring May flowers ... and
the Pasadena Showcase House
April 20 - May 18.

BY MICHAEL ANTHONY
Yes, it’s that time of the year again, and home and
garden enthusiasts know that the annual Pasadena Showcase
House of Design does not disappoint. It’s a place where
SoCal’s greatest interior and exterior designers come
together to enliven and beautify a local residential treasure.
In keeping with tradition, this year’s domicile candidate
does not disappoint. Originally built in 1922 (and purchased
at a “whopping” $250,000), this Spanish Colonial
Revival throwback has long been noted as one of La Cañada-Flintridge’s
most distinguished historic homes. Some 10,200 square feet
of residential living artfully give way to 14 luxurious rooms
fit for royalty; highlights include a full-service library
bar, the loggia (a Moroccan-inspired oasis), a morning sunroom,
and a power room along with all of the other trappings that
one would come to expect in a home, sweet home. Six outdoor
garden and pool areas also enchant, bringing the beauty of
the household’s interior out to the elements.
But this beauty, for the mere sake of beautification, is
not all that the Pasadena Showcase Home aims to do. Since
the first home unveiling in 1965, the all-volunteer staff
of California’s nonprofit Pasadena Showcase House for
the Arts has dedicated their time and talents to helping
those in need, primarily local student musicians. All proceeds
and donations received through the showing’s run—one
of the most successful home and garden tours in the nation—fully
fund three annual music programs, plus creates local grants
for much-needed musical therapy, education, and student scholarships.
Whether you’re green-thumbed, an interior design connoisseur,
or just another appreciative arts buff who likes to look
at pretty things, this year’s Pasadena Showcase House
is a marvel that simply cannot be missed!
