Destination: Travel the World Without Leaving West Hollywood

BY STEPHAN HORBELT

For those among us who dream of traveling the world but don't quite have the proper funds, there are two very feasible options. The first is to find an older gentleman who enjoys treating you to the finer (and more wrinkly) things in life. But in case that scenario brings up unpleasant memories of your early 20s, you can always travel to West Hollywood for Destination on Saturday night, the newest dance party to hit Boys' Town in at least a couple weeks.

Destination is the brainchild of Paul Nicholls and Jeffrey Sanker, whose names you've probably seen associated with nearly every event ever thrown in West Hollywood's city limits. These two men know how to throw a successful party, and the mere mention of their names conjures thoughts of half-naked men writhing to house music tracks. With their new Saturday night, Nicholls and Sanker attempt to bring a little worldly culture to the gay boys and girls of L.A., as each week has a different city for its theme. Past weeks have included Puerto Vallarta and Palm Springs, which also acted as the kick-off party for Sanker's infamous White Party. Destination has also been the after-party locale of choice for parties around town and has even featured a special midnight performance by New York diva Candis Cayne. Just like a gay cruise, there's plenty going on and something for everyone to enjoy.

No West Hollywood dance party is complete without a staple of well-known DJs to work the boys into a gay sweat. The dance floor at Destination is packed to the brim each week, which can sometimes be a hassle when you just have to get to the lady's room. Still, even those about to lose their mind fighting the crowd can appreciate the music, spun by gay-famous DJs Casey Alva, the Perry Twins, and crowd favorite Chi Chi La Rue. Expect tons more guest DJs to set the stage in the future.

Saturday nights out at the bar may not be quite as fun as traveling the world, but few things are. And while your “travel buddies” may seem to wear the same faces as you travel the globe each week, there are truly worse things. Here Lounge consistently brings in one of the cutest crowds you'll find all week, with plenty of drool-worthy boys and girls. It's no wonder that many patrons end their long journey in bed with one of the cute locals. Happy traveling!

MIXOLOGY

BARTENDER: Matthew

When this extremely athletic and muscular, 5’8”, 150lbs, single, 35-year-old Los Angeles native isn’t serving shots at C. Frenz Nightclub in Reseda, he enjoys taking weekend getaway trips, working out, sky-diving, running on the beach, playing tennis, shooting pool, and attending every Lakers game he can. A self-proclaimed “Lakers fanatic,” he also enjoys collecting Lakers’ memorabilia and claims that watching Lakers games is better than having sex (he’s not kidding folks). Aside from bartending, this sexy former psychology student also works as a freelance graphics/Web designer. He also enjoys watching reality shows like The Amazing Race, Survivor, and American Idol and hopes to one day own a gay sports bar. —TONY MIROS
