The Sweet Escape
Ironically, while working on Frontiers’ annual “Escape
From L.A.” issue, I spent a week getting reacquainted
with an ex-boyfriend who’d just escaped to L.A. to
flee from the unfriendly weather and his hectic daily pace
in Manhattan. While lounging in the sunshine next to a friend’s
pool, he confided that he was thinking about moving back
to West Hollywood, that he’d been seduced by our gorgeous
weather and easy living. Though I was excited by the prospect
of his return, I felt compelled to remind him that there
is stress inherent in any place you call home. As much as
I love Los Angeles, there are few things I enjoy more than
getting out of it for a respite from the gridlocked traffic,
leaving my dog with a sitter, and heading to a nearby resort
for some serious R&R. Unfortunately—for me, at
least—our lifestyle editor Korina Jochim took charge
of this issue and got out of the office to investigate La
Jolla and Santa Barbara—two of SoCal’s nearby
destinations, either is ideal for a weekend getaway. She’s
composed itineraries that you’re sure to enjoy.
In the second of our two-part series, Peter DelVecchio interviewed
several HIV healthcare specialists and has written a very
thorough article on the latest breakthroughs and alternative
therapies.
I’m certain you will find something informative and
useful in this issue. As always, I welcome your feedback.
