Stallion: The New Place To Get Mounted on Saturday Nights

BY STEPHAN HORBELT

West Hollywood nightlife has a reputation that precedes it. For most, the WeHo repute involves a polished, manicured crowd and top 40 music, brought together in a classy (though sometimes sterile) bar or club. This is obviously not a scene that appeals to everyone, and even those who appreciate and are caught up in WeHo's nightlife could use a little something different. Fubar, slightly off the beaten track of boys' town's “Abbey district,” has always been dependable in providing something fun and atypical. Fubar's newest venture, a Friday night party called Stallion, brings an entirely new vibe and sound into the West Hollywood city limits.

Having worked behind the bar at Fubar for years, Cody Bayne knows the bar's clientele, including what they like and what they expect from their favorite unpretentious watering hole. With Stallion, Bayne didn't fail to deliver; opening night was a clear success, with the dance floor packed until the bitter end. DJ Alex Petrov (aka DJ Rider) brings his musical abilities straight from Russia, spinning an amazing mix of music that will not be heard anywhere else in town. Described by Bayne as “dark-sexy-hot-fun-grinding beats,” the music plays an active role in the crowd's good time, packing the dance floor with warm bodies and heating up the bar. Bayne also plans to bring in guest DJs on a regular basis, while keeping the night's original sound and attitude.

Fubar was treated to a facelift for Stallion, all part of the “Berlin Style” that is the new night's intention. Neon lights inside the bar add a special touch to the party, and male and female dancers on stages and scaffolding make Stallion something different than the rest of its West Hollywood competition. Fubar has always been a little raunchier and sleazier than other bars on the boulevard, and that's what has kept people coming for years. Stallion keeps with this Fubar mindset, but also breaks away from what was once a laid-back, calm Friday night at the bar.

The crowd at Stallion is ten times as diverse as what West Hollywood and even Fubar is used to, with an assembly of personalities that includes drag performers, club-kid types, pretty West Hollywood boys and girls, East L.A. hipsters, and everyone in between. Such an eclectic crowd makes for a rowdy and enjoyable experience, an interesting night for all involved. Don't miss out on WeHo's newest night of drinks and debauchery.

MIXOLOGY

DJ: The Perry Twins

When these super sexy, 6-foot tall, 30-year-old, multi-talented, identical twins aren’t spinning at Here Lounge, Eleven, or the Abbey they play circuit parties and pride festivals around the country, produce remix tracks for dance music divas like Kristine W, Gioia Bruno, and Debby Holiday, and dance and choreograph for music videos. During their off-time, these two fun-loving Rhode Island natives enjoy taking road trips to the beach and mountains, going out dancing with friends, working out at the gym, and riding every roller coaster and thrill ride they can find. Individually, Doug (who’s single) is obsessed with video games and reality TV; while Derek (who has a boyfriend) enjoys hiking, going to the movies, and collecting Target (yes, as in the store) gift cards. —TONY MIROS
