We Can Change
I had this not-exactly-monumental revelation just this morning
while eating a very light and nutritious breakfast. Just
a few years ago, before my metabolism began to change, I’d
often gorge on a huge carb-heavy first meal of the day, believing
that the more food I consumed for breakfast, the more energy
I’d have throughout the morning. Now that sort of indulgence
not only expands my waistline, but it requires a pre-noon
nap. As accommodating as my publishers are and despite my
pleading, mid-day siestas are still a no-no at the Frontiers
office. As gay people, we are often harder on ourselves than
others are on us and as we head into this new year, the pressure
is on to be better and healthier. I bring up this breakfast
analogy because I have decided to stop beating myself up
so much. I have realized that compared to a few years ago,
I am already making great strides without much effort.
Last year one of my resolutions was to read a classic work
of literature each month. By mid-February, I returned a particularly
dense translation of Flaubert to its place on my bookshelf
and haven’t glanced at it since. This year I made the
same resolution and joined a book discussion group as an
incentive. There are many places and ways to find your own
inspiration. For helpful tips, I suggest you read the article
on page 69 in which Rich Carter has compiled ten tools for
maintaining your goals this year.
I’m certain you will find something beneficial in
this issue and as always, I welcome your feedback. Write
in (to letters@frontierspublishing.com) to let us know what
you think.
Yours,
Jeremy Kinser
