Fresh Fridays: Keeping WeHo Nightlife From Getting Stale

BY STEPHAN HORBELT

Weekend dancing options in L.A. are not as extensive as they used to be, with dive bars and swanky lounges now outweighing the number of dance clubs found in the gay circuit. While there are certainly places to go on Friday and Saturday nights that house huge dance floors and pump out top 40 and house music hits, those are also the same places L.A. residents have been going for decades. We gays can be a fickle bunch, persistently craving something new and different; we refuse to shake our asses just anywhere.

As the name suggests, Fresh Fridays bring something new to the table, taking place each Friday night at newest WeHo nightlife locale, Eleven. The party invites hot boys from all over the city to start the weekend off on the right foot, an invite that generally involves booze and good music. No matter which side of that equation you sway towards (the booze or good music, I mean), there's a good time waiting for you upon arrival.

This party is the newest addition to the résumé of superstar-promoter Jeffrey Sanker, the man responsible for White Party Palm Springs and numerous other gay events, who with Paul Nicholls is able to guarantee an enjoyable and packed party each and every week. Gorgeous, toned men are like moths to the flame when it comes to Sanker's events, so don't be surprised to find half the guys you cruise at your gym breaking it down on the dance floor. While it won't be said that Fresh Fridays bring out the most diverse crowd, it's unlikely you'll hear complaints from anyone.

While the party doors officially open at 9, the dancing does not get underway until around 11, when the venue transforms into a dark and sultry dance club. For those who keep up with L.A.'s roster of big-name DJs, this party will not disappoint, bringing in some of the best. The revolving list includes the likes of DJ Morningstar, Casey Alva, and Josh Peace, guaranteed to bring the crowd the best in danceable music of all genres. To beat the line that stretches around the corner and down the street every Friday night, it's best to arrive on the early side, as anyone who's stopped in before can attest.
